Emerald Buddha, Chiang Mai, Thailand

Only one of the many various colors of Buddhas in Chaing Mai. This is at Wat Buppharam temple.

The temple of Wat Buppharam in Chiang Mai was full of various colors of Buddhas, all done in some sort of tinted glass or crystal. I stared at each of them for a long time, trying to figure out how they were made. I can't imagine carving them was possible, and I doubt they were cast. So, at least to me, they remain a mystery. I think I'll go back and try to find out one day.

  1. Nice photo. I think Chiang Mai above all other places enjoys their Emerald Buddhas. I saw more of those statues there than I have anywhere else in Thailand.
