As we were walking out of the village of Atotonilco, near San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, we saw this head of Christ. It seemed to have been carved from a tree root and stuck upon a wall which separated an orchard from the road into the village. The church in the village, The Sanctuary of Atotonilco, is a Unesco World Heritage site which features many beautiful frescoes which have been recently restored. It is definitely worth a visit. However, the work of a local artisan sometimes is just as beautiful, and more heartfelt for its humble surroundings.
